Ramirez bruised his left knee when he fouled a ball off himself Sunday and his status for opening day is uncertain.

Analysis: X-rays on the two-time All-Star were negative. The team said Ramirez will remain in Arizona, and that it will be determined later whether he can play Thursday when the AL Central champions open at Minnesota. The 26-year-old Ramirez hit 39 home runs with 105 RBIs while batting .270 and stealing 34 bases last season. He has finished third in the AL MVP voting in each of the last two seasons.

Trumbo will start the season on the injured list. The 33-year-old Trumbo, who led the major leagues with 47 home runs in 2016, had surgery on his right knee last September. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Sunday that Trumbo hasn't played enough to be ready for opening day.

First-year Reds manager David Bell plans to move shortstop Jose Peraza to second base and use newcomer Jose Iglesias at shortstop.

Analysis: Kipnis had an MRI on Thursday which confirmed a mild right calf strain. He won't do any baseball activities for 7 to 10 days before being re-evaluated.

Olson underwent surgery on his right hand Friday after getting injured on a foul tip in his final at-bat during Thursday's 5-4, 12-inning loss to the Mariners in Tokyo. No timeline for his recovery was provided.

Analysis: Olson hit 29 homers and drove in 85 runs last year in his first full major league season. Olson, majors home run leader Khris Davis and third baseman Matt Chapman gave 97-win Oakland quite the slugging lineup.
